Ving Rhames, Barkhad Abdi, Jake McLaughlin, Frank Gillo, and Nicky Whelan are set to star in director Phil Volken’s drama “Extortion,” which he also penned the script for.
The story centers on a doctor who desperately tries to save his wife and 5-year-old son after their long-awaited vacation in the Bahamas takes an unexpected turn.
No word yet on what specific roles each actor will play.
Alina Shraybman is producer alongside Wendi Niad.
The Filmmuse Productions project us scheduled to begin shooting in Puerto Rico this month.
Ving Rhames will return with Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner in “Mission: Impossible 5,” as announced by director Christopher McQuarrie last week.
We last saw Rhames on the small screen alongside Whoopi Goldberg in the Lifetime Original, Movie “A Day Late and a Dollar Short,” which was based on The New York Times bestseller by Terry McMillan. He’s most recently signed up to reprise his role as former IMF computer hacker Luther Stickell in the next “Missiong: Impossible” movie.
Meanwhile, following his Oscar nominated role in “Captain Phillips,” Barkhad Abdi has continued to book roles, from playing famous South African marathon runner, Willie Mtolo, in an upcoming historical drama centered on his life, to joining the cast of Judd Apatow’s secretive “Trainwreck,” and, most recently, boarding Oscar winning director Gavin Hood’s “Eye in The Sky,” a thriller starring Colin Firth, which is set in the morally murky world of military drones.
